25 Years: What I’ve Learned
This month, August 24th, marks 25 years since the day I got the phone call telling me that a real publisher wanted to give me real money to publish one of my novels. So I thought I’d write a post sharing the most important things I’ve learned during this long haul. Friends matter Nourish your relationships. Find your tribe of creative colleagues. Let them become your friends. Try to offer as much to your tribe as you get back from it. Share the things you learn. Listen to the

Creativity by Any Other Name
To break Writers Block, engage in other forms of creativity. Do this A LOT. Click To Tweet The journey so far... In my post A Hitchhiker’s Guide Through Writers Block, I talked about my plan to map the way for future travelers on this particular path. My approach is to not write again until I feel truly inspired to compose, to spend as much time having fun this summer as I possibly can, and to meditate for 15 minutes every single day. In A Meditation Revelation, I talked abou

A Hitchhiker’s Guide Through Writer’s Block
Briefly, the 'problem' I’ve been oddly unable to get going on the next novel on my To-Be-Written (TBW) list. Even before the beautiful weather arrived to compete for my attention, I was having trouble getting started. I have written the first few scenes of 5 different plots for the same book. Two were suspensy, one a romantic comedy, one a marriage of convenience, and one a tragedy to be overcome. None of them feel right. I don't believe in writer's block I have publicly repe

Today’s Holiday for Creators!
Blessed Imbolc! Found on Pinterest You might not be aware that there is a holiday just for artists and writers, but there is and it’s today. Today, the exact halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal (Spring) Equinox is one of the four most powerful holy days of the year. “In-between” times and places (midnight and noon, dawn and dusk, swamps and bogs, beaches, doorways and thresholds, and the four halfway points between the solstices and the equinoxes) are alw

Miracle Grow for Business
My Favorite Thing in the Universe Okay, so I have never ever put a product in this spot. But I’m making an exception for this, because it’s made for people like us, creative entrepreneurs, artists, storytellers, and Law of Attraction wizards. LOAers as I call us. And it’s made BY one of us. About this time last year, I was wishing for a more spiritual approach to business and art, and as always happens when we ask, it was given. I started noticing people talking about Leonie

The Storyteller’s Role in a Changing World
But first, let’s talk about what’s really happening in our world. Humans Fear Change Where we are and where we’ve been are comfortable places. Maybe not perfect. Maybe vastly imperfect. But we know them. They’re familiar and safe. Change, on the other hand, is new. We can’t know what something new will feel like. So we cling to the familiar. And when I say “we” I mean humankind. But Change is Inevitable So here’s a microcosm of the big picture, illustrated in a little story.

The Care and Feeding of the Muse
The best way to cure writer’s block is to prevent it from ever happening. Inspiration is the well from which writers and artists drink. And the muse is the personification of our inspiration. Keeping her well full and clear is something that will benefit all artists, and here are some thoughts on how we can do that. Feed Your Muse with Down Time I know this is the opposite of the normal writerly advice, to “write every day.” But it’s vital to not spend all our time chained t

Accountability and Time Management for Creative Business People
A lot of writing friends and I have discovered some extremely helpful planning calendars that help us to keep accountable. We’ve been sharing our daily, weekly and monthly career goals, and sharing again in hindsight, what got done, what didn’t, how we can do better next time. I’ve been setting more and more goals. In the first 3 months of 2016, I rewrote 3 entire novels, packaged them, promoted them, and launched them, totally revamped two websites, wrote 22 blog posts, star
