Winter, Solitude, and Feeling Better
It struck me today how we in the northern hemisphere are entering winter, the dark part of the year, at the same time the pandemic is forcing us to become even more isolated. For the first time in my memory, we won’t be doing a whole family get-together for Thanksgiving or Christmas. And I thought how, to people of magic, to mystics and witches and those tuned into nature, that’s what the winter months are all about. Especially the dates around the Winter Solstice, the short

Blue Moon Lammas Eve Thoughts
Last night, I spent some time out on the back porch looking up at the moon and letting my mind go quiet. I’ve been letting myself tense up over the upcoming new book release, only three days away now, and I know that being all tense and jittery about its performance is the best way for me to ensure it does less than it could. By being nervous, I’m confirming that I’m not certain it will do well. I have been trying to let go of it, to accept in peace and grace that it will rea

The Cycles of Nature Within Us; Winter Solstice Series, Post 1
Before I blog about the Winter Solstice, I decided I had to talk about the new science that tells us why the planet’s seasonal cycles are important to us humans. More so than we may have realized, even if we’ve been following them all our lives. In the nature religions, we observe the Wheel of the Year which consists of eight holy days; the Winter and Summer Solstice, the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox, and the points exactly halfway in between each of them. We talk about what t

Re-Ignite The Fires! It’s Imbolc!
It’s February 2nd, and aside from it being Grounhog’s Day, it’s also Imbolc, or “Imbolg Brigantina” also known as St. Brigit’s Day. Brighid is known as the Goddess of the Forge, and on her day, she awakens the sleeping earth with her power of creative fire. She’s known as the inspirer of poets and writers, artisans of all kinds. The church adopted her and changed the holiday to St. Brigit’s Day because it was easier to do that than to get the Pagans to give up their Goddess.
