25 Years: What I’ve Learned
This month, August 24th, marks 25 years since the day I got the phone call telling me that a real publisher wanted to give me real money to publish one of my novels. So I thought I’d write a post sharing the most important things I’ve learned during this long haul. Friends matter Nourish your relationships. Find your tribe of creative colleagues. Let them become your friends. Try to offer as much to your tribe as you get back from it. Share the things you learn. Listen to the

Miracle Grow for Business
My Favorite Thing in the Universe Okay, so I have never ever put a product in this spot. But I’m making an exception for this, because it’s made for people like us, creative entrepreneurs, artists, storytellers, and Law of Attraction wizards. LOAers as I call us. And it’s made BY one of us. About this time last year, I was wishing for a more spiritual approach to business and art, and as always happens when we ask, it was given. I started noticing people talking about Leonie

The Storyteller’s Role in a Changing World
But first, let’s talk about what’s really happening in our world. Humans Fear Change Where we are and where we’ve been are comfortable places. Maybe not perfect. Maybe vastly imperfect. But we know them. They’re familiar and safe. Change, on the other hand, is new. We can’t know what something new will feel like. So we cling to the familiar. And when I say “we” I mean humankind. But Change is Inevitable So here’s a microcosm of the big picture, illustrated in a little story.

The Artist’s Art of Observation
All Creators are First Observers We don’t get the urge to tell stories until we’ve first been told stories. Whether it was our mother or grandmother, teacher or sibling, babysitter or friend, weaving a tale of her own, or reading to us from a fabulous book. The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, or Hop on Pop or the television set, we saw or heard or read stories. We loved stories. And so we gave birth to the desire to tell stories ourselves. From the very first urge, art begin

Accountability and Time Management for Creative Business People
A lot of writing friends and I have discovered some extremely helpful planning calendars that help us to keep accountable. We’ve been sharing our daily, weekly and monthly career goals, and sharing again in hindsight, what got done, what didn’t, how we can do better next time. I’ve been setting more and more goals. In the first 3 months of 2016, I rewrote 3 entire novels, packaged them, promoted them, and launched them, totally revamped two websites, wrote 22 blog posts, star

The Sacred Art of Story
There is a great creative well from which all storytellers drink. It is made up of the creative souls of every artist who ever lived, going all the way back to the heart of our tribe, the woman who stood before the central fire in times long forgotten, telling and retelling the stories of her people.
Every religion sprang from such stories. Think about the power of that!
You and I are a part of that sacred tradition. We, artists of every sort, have been chosen as members

The Scoop on Groups and Loops
There is a lot of benefit to joining and networking with others who are in the same business as you are. For creative entrepreneurs, there are plenty of organizations, private groups and email lists to go around. (I know about the writerly ones, so those are the ones I’ll discuss.) We go to these loops and groups to share our wisdom, our knowledge, our experiences and above all else….to bitch.
We bitch about everything Amazon.com does. They are the evil empire, our fellow au
